GourmetOrigins was founded in 2009 by Economics graduate and London resident Miquel Ros.
Originally born of Miquel’s personal project to compile an interactive map of his favourite cheeses, GourmetOrigins has evolved into a popular compendium for foodies worldwide, whose passions include the discovery of great quality, authentic food.
Having traveled widely for both study and previous employment in the Financial sector, and being inspired by the Mediterranean diet of his native Barcelona, Miquel has successfully combined in one interactive platform his two great loves; travel and food. Fascinated with seeking out authentic fare, and as such, being an obsessive reader of food labels, Miquel has created GourmetOrigins as an expanded ‘virtual label’ launch pad, from which you can discover the whole story of your favourite produce, and find new flavours and ideas.
I have always had an interest in learning where things are produced, and always paid attention to the labeling of products. It’s amazing; the importance of explaining the story of a certain product, and to present it in an attractive way. People often do not buy products, rather stories and experiences...and I realised how many more possibilities there would be if the sort of information you can find on a label was expanded in the virtual world

We do believe in the strong connection between the best produce and its place of origin: the place where it is made, the tradition, the landscape and the dedication of generations of dedicated craftsmen. This is why we started building a comprehensive guide for products that with a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) or a Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (TSG) label, or that are produced following artisan or traditional methods, have received awards or are recognized for their outstanding quality.
