Canino is an extra virgin olive oil with Protected Denomination of Origin status from the Italian province of Viterbo, in Lazio region. Its production area includes the municipality of Canino, particularly the villages of Canino, Farnese, Ischia di Castro, Tessenano, Cellere, Arlena e Tuscania and Montalto di Castro. The peculiarity of olive oil Canino DOP is that olive trees are grown in a volcanic and limestone soil. It is characterized by emerald green colour with gold highlights, by a strong flavour, bitter and peppy aftertaste. This oil is mainly produced from the local variety "Caninese."
